The digital economy was already one of the most exciting sectors in Africa before COVID-19, especially in fintech. U.S. companies are global leaders in this space and have been expanding in Africa, but many are still cautious. COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of the digital economy around the world, as telemedicine, distance education, and fintech solutions have shown an ability to adapt and help respond to this crisis. Some have pointed to ICT as a sector that could be crucial to Africa's recovery, as goods trade and services dependent on travel (such as tourism) could take significant time to recover from coronavirus.

Digital markets offer growth prospects which can boost economic recovery on the Continent and investment in Africa's tech sector continues to surge. This webinar series aims to build African governments support for prioritizing ICT and to help identify more opportunities for U.S. and African companies. It will also build on the USTDA-led "Access Africa". The speakers will look at innovations and digital solutions to COVID recovery, particularly focusing on fintech, e-commerce, e-health and digital intermediation. They will discuss tech solutions that are currently driving economies in Africa, innovative steps being taken by businesses and governments as a result of COVID-19, and what we should expect from policy makers to strengthen the ICT sector going forward.
